        So they think this will avoid bots astroturfing? I’m pretty sure they could update their filters in seconds to account for that, if so.

        Because the Russians liked the movie world war z or what? Also I’m still confused why people on Lemmy would adopt that spelling regardless

          Z was being used in ruZZia as a symbol to show support for the invasion. IIRC Z was used by a certain command in that area on tanks and trucks.

          People started spelling “Russia” as “ruZZia” to relate it to the Nazi SS and using Z to do so to show distane for the war. I write it with lower case r out of disrespect 🤷

          They needed a symbol to spray paint on their tanks to easily differentiate them. Z is simple and it’s not a a Cyrillic letter.
