yeah I didn’t know about the existence of this place until at least 2021.
@tilefan@lemm.ee 👍🏽 For some reason, after the lockdowns, it was when things started to change. There was Elon/Twitter exodus. Then the Reddit exodus. These two events made a huge impact than all the efforts combined prior to it.
But it’s still hard to pinpoint what changed. I mean, media coverage was, I think similar as in the first 10 years, it was always about “Twitter alternative” from mass media. I guess what Elon and Reddit did are the trigger point and not the media coverage of a “Twitter/Reddit alternative”?
for me, I had an account set up before the Twitter bullshit, but I only use Twitter to follow sex workers anyway. The brain-drain over on Reddit made the moderation even worse, and the moderation was already the worst part of the site
