it’s got nothing to do w the content and everything to do with reddit newbies trying to dominate/control the discourse away from leftists views. what they don’t understand is that doing so on the fediverse only serves to exclude .worlders from the full group chat that everyone else can see.
this isn’t reddit; ignore the votes and make up your own mind on the information being shared.
I’m fine ignoring it - but my concern stems from the affect of mass downvotes on the visibility of interesting articles. I know that a fair few lemmy users absolutely love targeting OP in particular, which is disappointing but, hell, the world’s pretty disappointing right now. When it’s just downvoting comments then whatever… but downvoting posts lowers what most users see.
i think that’s the intention behind it. a huge majority of lemmings came from reddit and votes matter on reddit so redditors are conditioned to consider the votes before they consider content of the message. if they see mostly downvotes; they won’t even bother looking at the post, much less consider it.
like republicans misleading to their base to get votes out of them; the reddit enshitification induced user diaspora is being mislead and we can only best help by being here and trying to engage.
and just like those mislead republicans; those lemmings will fight tooth and nail to keep their ignorance safe so we should expect behavior like this.
The downvotes are mystifying… it’s pretty clear most voters want better labor protections and policies that help them directly in their day to day.
