Historians, charmingly addicted to context as they are, will probably have to start somewhere just prior to Reagan’s deregulating the financial sector and the repeal of the fairness doctrine to set the table for our current economic and media hellscape that has enabled the rise of a far right, whose foreign policy has emboldened rogue nations. I just hope they find time to connect the dots between the Battle of Seattle and the future of Taiwan.
