No, they’re just super efficient and very good at planning. They know that Joe Biden can technically still be president for another term, so they’re heading him off on his 2028 comeback run. /s

      Ps hello fellow lawyer.

This is the first real meal I had in years.

Said someone who lives off popcorn! 🍿

I’m not judging you though. I used to love this sort of drama. (I still do, a bit.)

Maybe if you opened your eyes you would notice that sitting at a table full of fascists is slightly different than a state visit.

          Quick breakdown:

Willy Wimmer is a German fascist - or as Wikipedia calls it “nationalist right-wing” former politician. He has written for the far-right extremist shitrag Compact, for “alternative media” (aka nazi blogs) and for Russian state media.

Cyril Svobado has been invited to observe Azerbaijan’s 2013 presidential election and mentioned that everything was “fair and transparent”. An election result was accidentally released before voting began in that election. He has also given an interview to “Voice of Europe” who are infamous for interviewing nazi politicians across Europe.

Emir Kusturica is a Serbian nationalist, supportive of war criminal Radovan Karadžić and has expressed support for the “Greater Serbia” ideology. He is a supporter of Russia’s war against Ukraine and a “personal friend” of Shoigu.

Why is Jill Stein sitting on the same table as Russian-sponsored nazis?

The most powerful man in the Western World shaking hands and smiling with a mass murdering despot is fine, just so long as the US can claim some kind of diplomatic advantage out of the visit (spoilers: they didn’t).

But Biden’s done far worse than grab a table with a handful of despotic fascists. He’s put genocidiers on his advisory committees and his VP has taken their endorsements on her path to the White House. Look up

John Negroponte: US installed dictator of Iraq during the occupation. Responsible for the deaths of tens of thousands of Iraqis, both through the brutal massacres initiated by US military officers and deliberate starvation of dissident Sunni communities. He oversaw the helicopter patrols that would become famous in the “Collateral Murder” video, filmed in July 17th of 2007, and released by WikiLeaks. Negroponte endorsed Biden in 2020 and fundraised on his behalf. He’s endorsed Harris four years later.

Elliott Abrams: A participant in the Iran-Contra Affair and an adviser for both Bush and Trump on Latin America. He was appointed to Biden’s “Council on Foreign Relations” and advised the president towards hawkish military policies all through Argentina, Bolivia, Venezuela, and Brazil. He’s had his hand in everything from the Cuban Embargo, responsible for the deaths of tens of thousands thanks to restrictions on medical and food trade, to the rape of nuns in Nicaragua.

We can keep going down the list. Jeff Zients, Biden’s Chief of Staff, who was one of the pioneers behind the misinformation hub Cambridge Analytics. This was the tool Russia used to target voters on Facebook in 2016. William J. Burns, Biden’s CIA Director, who served as ambassador to Russia during the Bush Jr administration and the close collaboration between the US and Russia in the War on Terror. Responsible for the kidnapping and killing of an uncountable number of “suspects” swept up in the Bush Era black sites projects in Syria and Jordan. Neera fucking Tanden, Director of the Domestic Policy Council and bag woman for the Clintons going back 30 years. She vocally advocated for the bombing of Libya while working in Hillary Clinton’s Sec of State office. Another mass slaughter, followed by military rule and open slave markets in the shadow of French and US intercession.

Why is Joe Biden surrounding himself with these fascists?

To muddle our analysis by insisting that fascism is already here, or that the Democratic party is fascist, or that liberals are fascists or the midwives of fascism, or that Democratic party voters are voting for fascism, is to disarm ourselves against the fascist threat. It is defeatism to shrug our shoulders saying that both parties are fascist, and a disservice to the many antifascist militants in our own country who have been killed, injured, and locked away in prison while struggling against this extremely serious threat. To assume that January 6th was a hyped-up myth, or to belittle its gravity, is a dereliction of our most solemn duty as Communists and workers in the belly of the beast.

You’ll notice politicians largely stopped doing AMAs back in 2016 when /r/The_Donald completely swamped the system. Given the degree to which Reddit is a system by and for bot-farms, Jill was sticking her foot squarely into a bear trap just by setting this up.

American democracy is fucked because the voters themselves stoped believing that the two party system is bad.

You can’t be critical of both parties at once. One is evil, another is pure love.

Anybody that understands politics understands that the two-party system is shit. They also understand that unless both parties agree that they don’t like it and want to willingly allow more competing parties to sabotage their own efforts, it will never change.

So, saying that US democracy is fucked just because of that is a load of bullshit. Almost all democracies have two-party systems like that. Not even fucking Canada wanted to change their FPTP system, even when conservatives were abusing the system for 15 years. It was so bad that liberal voters in 2014 election had to tell their other liberal like-minded candidates “Yes, we like you, and we like your policies, but for the sake of the country’s future, we have to vote for Trudeau.”

The two party system is hot flaming garbage.

In order for ranked choice voting on a national level to get incorporated, the elected officials have to vote to change the system that put them in power. Neither of the two parties’ politicians wants that, since it would then be easier for someone else to potentially beat them, so it doesn’t happen.

Funny, I often run into the most combative people with “ACKCHYUALLY” attitudes when speaking to libertarians. Republican Pot Smoking Edition models of political worldview tend to try very hard to defend their very nuanced mental gymnastics of being able to be a little empathetic on the surface socially while still turning their back on those less fortunate in actions.

Yes, here are the MAGA B-team campaigners on Lemmy, self-aware they are supporting a vile cult and so pretending “Blue MAGA” is a thing. Your main campaigners on larger platforms like reddit don’t even know who the Dem candidate is, but they are serious candidates we should take seriously, for some reason.

Notable differences between Stein and Harris:

        • opposes genocide in Gaza
        • opposes fracking
        • stronger on the environment
        • approves of single payer healthcare
        • approves of tuition free colleges for all
        • wants to slash our bloated military budget

I live in a blue state and will be voting Green to try to build momentum for third parties and STAR voting. I do hope Trump is defeated and thrown in jail, and I’d reconsider my vote if I lived in a purple state.

You’re still throwing your vote away.

Even if I accept that any state is really as solid blue as people may think, we have the opportunity as a nation to cast an overwhelming vote against fascism. That would be sending a message that the entire free world could be proud of. Nah, you can’t be bothered. You’d rather cast your vote for a Putin asset.

I’m voting for the Green party, not a fascist.

That would be sending a message that the entire free world could be proud of.

The entirety of the United Nations except the US and Israel has condemned the massacre in Gaza as a genocide. You think everyone would be proud of voting for someone who intends to continue to ship weapons to Israel?

You’d rather cast your vote for a Putin asset.

No proof and regardless this is bigger than Jill Stein, this is about building power to the left of the Democratic party. Claudia De la Cruz would definitely be my preferred candidate over Stein, but it is what it is.

It’s so weird you immediately list the differences between Stein and Harris, but not Trump. Totally unprompted. Considering that a third party is going against the other two, that’s odd. Almost like you know exactly what you’re doing, but won’t admit it.

Why would I list the differences between Stein and Trump when I literally just said that I hope Trump loses (and thrown in jail). At no point was I ever considering voting for him. The whole point is that third parties aren’t part of the corporate duopoly.

I’m explaining why I’m voting my conscience in a rigged FPTP system where my vote otherwise amounts to nothing (because again I’m in a blue state), but clearly nothing I say is going to stop you from making insinuations.

Hey I just want to say I appreciate you treating me with respect which is more than I can say for a bunch of other commenters here.

I think the president has a decent amount of power, even with a hostile congress. They can declare a climate emergency, and get funding for renewable energy that way; they can enforce an arms embargo or other sanctions (on say, Israel), they can use the bully pulpit to point out the hypocrisy of congress’s inaction.

But the most important thing to come out of it would be that the Democratic party would be forced to listen to people on the left, and not just court right wingers all the time.
