Power to the motherfucking people! We stand with you sisters and brothers!
Dock workers striking against automation is the most American thing I’ve ever heard. When your country has a social safety net, it prevents luddite bullshit like this.
You should go down and tell them just what you thing, smart guy with all the amswers
They’re basically right. Automation kills jobs. More profit goes to the corpos and not the workers. If we redistributed those extra profits (tax heavily and reinvest in social programs), losing your job wouldn’t be a potentially life-destroying experience. We don’t need to have jobs that can be automated, but until we use that excess profit to help people, workers literally can’t afford to not do those jobs.

Yep

They break constantly, lmao. They’re so bad, it’s perfect. The more they break, the more job security I have, and boooooy, do they.
A human will apply the brakes when they panic.
Robots don’t panic. Robots go FULL SEND into problems; busted rails, twisted metal. Sensor thinks nothing is there? Nothing is there! whoosh!
The other workers also hate them and frequently sabotage the automated trucks by putting shit in their way, or running over their markers(small reflectors in our warehouse that the trucks align to).
Have you shopped for groceries in the last 5 years? See one cashier watching 4 self check out lanes? Then how could you still believe this?

Is this the same strike where the union leader is like friends with Trump? I’ve been feeling weird since I heard that because I’m all about workers striking but it seems like it might also be designed timing wise to make biden/harris look bad for the economy right before the election?
Even if that were true, you know what would make them not look bad? Doing the right thing in the first place.
EDIT:
Think about this from the reverse perspective: If you wanted to maximize your chances at success, it’s better to maximize the potential cost to businesses and governments for not listening to you.
The perspective of “You’re making us look bad by… showing the ways we’re not doing good.” Is a really backwards, elite-oriented way of understanding politics. Politicians are in theory supposed to serve the people, not the other way around.
That’s very true and i figured I’d get downvoted for asking, it’s just this election has me so nervous because it’s still such a toss up and people equate any (even perceived) economic downturn as being the fault of the current administration. I just wanted to know if anyone here had any more insight on the dude.
At the end of the day it’s all about the workers and i don’t mind suffering small inconveniences if it gets the wiring class better lives.
You’re right, we should just embrace Trump. He’s super pro union right? This will totally work out great for the working class.
Edit: I’ll add /s in here in case any idiots are reading.
This is my fear as well. The timing is absolutely horrible.
Are you talking about the teamster’s union guy that voiced support for Trump? He got fucking roasted by everyone with a functional brain.
Labor power is neither Republican nor Democrat.

Republicans are typically very against unions. You realize this, right?
Yes. And that doesn’t matter. We don’t organize to politely ask for our rights. We organize to demand them and shut down the economy until they cave.
