“nonpolitical” characteristics where not a single uncomfortable thought might reach the treat hogs’ unbothered heads?
They babble about 
but what they want is the cheap lazy noisy thought-terminating spectacles from Fahrenheit 451.
There’s an old folk saying about how demons and devils can’t create, they can only corrupt and co-opt creation. I wonder if it had some sociological origin (you know, toxic assholes) and got wrapped in superstition over time.
