Why is there hostility towards suggestions to switch to lemmy from redditors?

Windows users don’t feel any one particular way abut Linux users.

Redditors also do not feel any one particualr way about Lemmy users–in the unlikely case of reddit users knowing Lemmy users exist at all.

Not true. Almost everyone’s heard of Linux at this point - the hype surrounding the IT sector in the past decade has ensured that.

Who cares what they think of each other, like seriously it’s like the old 4chan vs Reddit vs 9gag. Who cares what platform you use. I use 4chan, Reddit, and Lemmy. Each has their own niche and anyone who sticks to one and thinks it is the best is falling to tribalism.

There definitely seems to be a bit of hostility from some users on Reddit. I was recently on Reddit answering some questions by some users about Lemmy, just trying to help, and some other Reddit users obviously didn’t like it, and I repeatedly got downvoted and there were a few hostile comments. I really don’t understand why it would even bother anyone on Reddit.
Even though I still use Reddit occasionally, mainly for 1 subreddit, it makes me glad that for the most part, I have gotten away from Reddit and that toxic environment, and have joined Lemmy.

Worse, some see it as scam (been compared to crypto) and some see it as “hard left” like a Truth Social for tankies. Little attempt to try and understand beyond that and I‘m not going to attempt to comment about it again as I don‘t even want to give Reddit the traffic.

However, I think some more will come around as Reddit will surely enshittify further, which benefits any alternatives like Lemmy/kbin if we build communities here with interesting content.

      I mean… I thought that, and that’s why I joined 🤣

Glad it hasn’t been 100% tankie, but so far I’ve felt at home with a mostly left userbase

I’m honestly happy that people who think that way are staying on Reddit.

Everyone has their balance between convenience, requirements, and willingness to explore. I’d guess that most Linux users haven’t given BSD a fair chance, and further away Plan9 people lament that few people wanted to migrate away from Unix.
