It feels like voluntary supplication to the techbros in a “notice me senpai” way. I go out of my way to ignore/bypass as many bazinga tracking devices as possible.
“Oh, you don’t want to download these cookies? Just click ok when it asks for the microphone and camera access”
Even calling them “cookies” set off all my internal alarms early on. “Teehee this quirky unspecified download is yummy and you should have it. TAKE IT. TAKE IT NOW.”
Tbf originally (in the 90’s) they were pretty harmless, mostly used just to store login information etc. but leave it to tech bros to corrupt every useful technology
That was enough for me to dislike them then. “Gator” and “Bonzi Buddy” even back then proved my dislike was called for.
