This seems to be an issue with all wrestling magazines on the fediverse. Which makes sense; the people who flocked to a new social media platform are probably the same type of people who flocked to a new wrestling promotion. Malcolm Gladwell would call us “Mavens” (funny enough).
The solution is simple: if anyone watches WWE/ NJPW / GCW or anything else and wants to post about it, do it! I started posting the AEW discussion threads a few weeks ago only because someone in the microblog asked if there would be one, and instead of waiting around for someone to respond to that person, I just went ahead and did it.
To me, the real issue with this place is that the mods have basically abandoned us. As far as I know, we’re now the biggest wrestling magazine on the fediverse but we don’t have any active mods. We have a subscription number similar to the MMA magazine…but holy cow are those guys putting in work to build their magazine! They’re getting upwards of ONE THOUSAND comments on their PPV’s. While here our biggest showing was the Forbidden Door discussion thread, which had all of 70+ comments. Without active mods, we’re going to skate by with minimal growth…and possibly even lose some numbers. It’s an issue we, as a community, will probably have to solve at some point.
Yeah I’m not a big fan of “magazine” for the nomenclature choice but long as it works they can call it hippy-zippy-do-groupings and I’ll live with it XD
Yeah, it’s tough. I think most of us would love to also throw in some WWE discussions, but it just so happens that most of the active folks here at the moment are watching only AEW, myself included. I’d love to see some WWE discussions in there but as somebody who isn’t watching it personally, I feel a little disingenuous posting about something of which I don’t have much of substance to add. I imagine it’s a pretty similar situation for most of us here.
It’s very welcome content though! I hope nobody is seeing the AEW-heavy content there and thinking their WWE thoughts are better taken elsewhere.
My thoughts exactly, especially when it comes to creating a WWE discussion thread: It doesn’t feel right to create one if I’m not going to take part in it.
And just like you said, hopefully no WWE fans feel left out. I’d much rather this place feel inclusive for them, and any other fans for that matter.
Same for me with all this. I don’t watch WWE anymore but I’d love to see WWE fans having discussions here about it. Any activity is good activity to build this place up.
Fair point. Seems to be the land of opportunities right now. Just today I created a community for horror games cause I couldn’t find one. Sounds similar to your story, haha.
UFC just got big cause of Punk, tell me when I’m… nevermind 😅
While I am a big AEW fan I am also trying to get into NJPW in a big way. Watching the G1 right now. The problem I have is availability of shows online. Yes I know they have their own streaming site, I just am waiting to pull the trigger once I am a little more invested.

Is “magazine” kbin for “subreddit”?
Yep. Here on kbin it’s a Magazine, on Lemmy it’s a Community.
I’m on Lemmy’s side of that debate, “magazine” already has a totally different definition.

Especially as wrestling magazines in particular are very much a thing, I was deeply confused by this post for quite a while.

FWIW the MMA thread had 415 comments. I was way off lol. But still, pretty big number for a mag with similar subs to ours.

If the mods have basically abandoned us, could we get some new mods?
We’re all good now. Myself and @Neon_Carnivore were added as mods a few days ago.
To be fair Forbidden Door isn’t the most mainstream PPV.
Simple solution for the mods… 30 users enter a thread 1 leaves as a mod, repeat 2-3 times and see how that goes.
But what do we do when one mod assaults another and has to drop their mod role? Just wait for them to come back months later?
