I just bought Firewatch, always wanted to play it and the sale price was really good. It’s also rated as confirmed on steamdeck, but it won’t launch for me. Does it work for others? Any idea of what I can do, or support I can get for it? Or should I just request a refund and be sad?
I played through it before, and it ran great. I’d suggest trying the normal fixes:
-
Verify game files
-
Try a different proton version. I usually try both the highest version of proton 7 and proton experimental.
-
Reboot.
If none of those work, put
PROTON_LOG=1 %command%
in the launch options for the game inside the steam game properties. This will generate a log file in your home folder that you can share to help identify what went wrong.-
I occasionally have a game that suddenly won’t launch. You can try verifying the files.
Usually I have to restart, even if I just powered up the SD. Sometimes launching another game (like some simple platformer) then exiting and starting up the game will work.
I wish there were some easier way to see logs or output from failed launches.
If you’re wanting logs for a game that’s originally for windows and is running through proton, you can add
PROTON_LOG=1 %command%
to your launch options in steam game properties. It will generate a log file in your home folder.
Loaded right up for me. Do you have any compatibility settings enabled?
I’ve had this happen on rare occasions with other games. Apart from what some ppl have been suggesting, sometimes a clean reinstall of the game just makes it work.
Not that you should have to for a confirmed game, but when in doubt ProtonGE tends to fix things.
Hey it works for me but I only loaded it up once. It ran pretty well but expected it to run better, I played like the first 20 minutes. So it should be working for you OP. It’s a cool game to play thru if you haven’t before so I hope you get it to load.
Oh no, I also pulled the trigger on that one. Can’t test if it works for me right now but did you try launching from desktop?
Happened to me when I started a new game of Doom 3. I ended up using Proton Experimental and that somehow fixed it.
I was able to verify the files which took no time at all and then it worked… Not sure what was up, but also steamos updated
