Trump’s campaign also tried to use Beyonce’s “Freedom,” but stopped when she threatened to sue
The song is “Rockin’ in the Free World”. Hopefully Young asked Walz, “are you sure you want to use that one?”
There’s colors on the street
Red, white, and blue
People shuffling their feet
People sleeping in their shoes
There’s a warning sign on the road ahead
There’s a lot of people saying we’d be better off dead
Don’t feel like Satan, but I am to them
So I try to forget it any way I can[Chorus]
I see a woman in the night
With a baby in her hand
There’s an old street light
Near a garbage can
Now she put the kid away and she’s gone to get a hit
She hates her life and what she’s done to it
There’s one more kid that’ll never go to school
Never get to fall in love, never get to be cool[Chorus]
We got a thousand points of light
For the homeless man
We got a kinder, gentler machine gun hand
We’ve got department stores and toilet paper
Got styrofoam boxes for the ozone layer
Got a man of the people says keep hope alive
Got fuel to burn, got roads to drive[Chorus]
It actually makes sense as a campaigning song to me as long as your platform is about trying to address the social problems the song is highlighting.
I guarantee Walz knows what it’s about, and he chose it for that reason.
Hes one smaht cookie, kid.
He does.
Holy fucking shit! He’s on a different level now!
Grateful Dead moccasins!
Just a reminder that Ann Coulter and Tucker fucking Carlson are “deadheads” too. Walz is great and I think he gets it, but the evidence of that is what he’s done not the band merch he wears.
This thread is about whether or not Walz was aware of the lyrics of a Neil Young song. Being a fan of The Grateful Dead added to the discussion.
Walz seems like a respectable person. We will see how that plays out. Charles Manson and Mark Chapman were obsessed with Beatles, but I don’t associate them to everyone else who enjoys their music. So I’m not really clear on the point being made here.
Wicked smaht,
I find it incredibly unlikely that he’s going to enter into a conversation on American failures and cruelty as a VP candidate for the party currently in the White House.
But I would be damned impressed if he ended up coming out to “we got a thousand points of light for the homeless man, we got a kinder, gentler machine gun hand” rather than the chorus. Worried, but impressed.
WHERE IS MY TOILET PAPER?
Many people don’t listen to the main lyrics or understand the meaning of songs, but just like the chorus.
“Born in the USA” is another example.
Same as the Magaites dancing to Killing In The Name a while back during the BLM protests. It was obvious that the only part of the song they cared about was “Fuck you I won’t do what you tell me”
I’d love to hear one of them answer who were the “forces” that burn crosses. Probably some sort of imaginary vaccine cop.
Or Paul Ryan and anything by RAtM.
Which was used for NJ in the roll call. I laughed a bit.
It’s questionable there, but it’s a hell of a song so they could be earnestly saying Springsteen was a NJ treasure for writing a fantastic protest song. Buuuut… they probably just liked the assumed pride of the chorus.
AMERICAN WOMAN
Which is also a song by a Canadian band 😅
a team is one your comment just reminded me of, thanks.
And some mandatory songs that always came up that my memory serves… semi charmed life by third eye blind, hey ya by outcast, every breath you take by the police, escape (Pina colada song) by Rupert Holmes, macarena …
Ok I got bored trying to remember them all if anyone wants to add …
“Hook” by Blues Traveller. “Pumped Up Kicks” by Foster the People.

The DNC had permission for every song in the roll call. That was a major flex, and endorsement from all of those artists.
Oh hey, are we returning to a time where we can all agree that Nazis are bad?
Was there ever a time where we all agreed on that?
When John Belushi said “I hate Illinois nazis” and drove them all into the river in The Blues Brothers, there wasn’t anybody around who didn’t think that was funny.
I’ll bet the Illinois Nazis didn’t find it too funny
Won’t someone please think of the Nazis?
The poor Nazis will never be able to live with themselves after all this cyberbullying
2007…
All the “I Don’t See Color!” People started to think otherwise when they realized “Oh wait, minorities are allowed to be in charge of things? Fuck it, I’m with Hitler!”
I’m not holding my breath.
The pendulum swings.
been noticing the conservatives on Twitter freaking out over the music rights thing, rattling on about how “music should be for everyone”. which is a hoot, because like, wait, you’re telling me you want to take the property of someone else, which they invested time and money into producing, and redistribute it to all people who want it?? HMMMM that sounds like something…
I’ve had a few folks delete their tweets but for the most part they just ignore it or call me very stupid and evil (their go-to when they have no argument) lmao. I actually engaged one Maga musician because he was afraid of what would happen if we allowed the right’s “musical socialism” discussion to continue.
What happened to Kid Rock? The greatest celebrity there ever was
He was last seen eating French Cries while being taken away in the whaaaambulance.
i heard they administered Crylenol
He couldn’t do anything of note without amphetamines and Warren Zevon
Who could?
Hey now, he’s just an excitable boy.
“Mr. Zevon, I got an idea: Bawitdaba of London”
As a Canadian, his music is like crack to me
Lol I saw him at a musical festival near Barrie like 8 years ago, and I remember someone from the group beside me saying “I swear to god if he says Monsanto one more time…” and then then the literal next song started with a big power chord and “Mooonnnssaaaaaannnntoooooo” and they stood up and left.
That’s actually hilarious
Lol that’s what I’ve heard. I adore his folk music, but his concerts I hear just devolve into shitty political rallies.
yep
Can he even sue? I thought UMG or Atlantic owned his music.
How can
