I’ve been using Proton VPN for 1-2 years and in the past few months I’ve had some serious issues with youtube flat out refusing to work properly. Sometimes I try piped which is really hit and miss. Anyone else experiencing something similar? Any solutions? Seems like most servers are rejected by google.

Sometimes when I have issues on a VPN, I’ll try connecting to a different server, usually in a different region. That often helps.

It might be due to local caching requirements and too many people on the network at the VPN. It wouldn’t be due to the VPN, but due to the resources YT has installed at the local ISP.

They have back boxes. They cache the most popular and regional favorites locally, intercept, and serve them much more directly. It started happening around 2017. That is why YT shifted away from being a community and into an algorithm of promotions of certain individuals instead. I have to let YT around the VPN or it has problems too.

Interesting, I’ll try and connect via a server where the content might be stashed. I’ll have to look into this, I wondered if there is a technical reason behind enshitification.

      EDIT: It works!!
