I moved to Tucson a few months ago, and would love to hike with and/or grab a beer with other long distance backpackers that live in the area. Most of my friends live in other states. I’ve been doing sections of the AZT on weekends solo but would really like to hike with others who have experience with long distance hiking/ trails or just get together and talk about trails lol.

There are a few thru hikers in town! Summit Hut just did an event last weekend and a few of us were there. Feel free to pm if you want, happy to have others along for a hike that don’t mind some brutal miles lol.

I’m a thru hiker ‘living’ in Tucson but currently abroad.
My #1 rec would be to get involved with the ATA & WildArizona
Both offer backpacking trail work events that I thought were great when I first moved here.
My #2 rec would be to just plan and go for your long distance hikes alone. Maybe you’ll meet a friend who wants to team up, but I’ve found it’s very difficult to actually coordinate these things with others. And by doing them, you might just make a few friends on the way.

Good to know, thanks. I’m more down to just hang out with people normally over just hiking. I’ll check out #1 groups for sure. Was also looking into Sky Island Alliance

yeah, you’ll meet some quality people there for sure, and backpacking trail work is as good as a section hike.

Moving to town later this year, actually as soon as I’m done with my half-spring half-fall AZT thru. Let’s link up!

I’m living in Tucson and have been building up a little gang of through hikers and long distances for hiking a hanging. It’s not always easy to get everyone together, but anyone interested feel free to drop me a PM on here and let me know!

I’m moving to flag in 2 weeks. I thru hiked the whole azt in 2022 so I’m excited to live so close to the trail. Something really sacred about it to me

I feel this. The “hike the trail” -> “move to trail town” pipeline is real

Dude! It’s hilarious. I know people from the cdt that relocated to Leadville, pct people that moved to Ashland or Bend. I love the thru hiking community so much I’m excited to be surrounded by more of us.

Totally. I feel that. I moved from a PCT trail town to an AZT trail town haha. Enjoy Flagstaff, it’s awesome!

I know of a lady in Flagstaff who has thru-hiked a lot of trails. I think there are a lot of thru-hiking youtubers in Flagstaff actually, although some of them live in vans.

For sure Flagstaff is a hot spot. Just found 2 buddies in Tucson I didn’t know were living here from my post so that’s good!
