Hi,
I just tried to upload an image to a (remote) community via the sdf instance and got a JSON syntax error message.
Also tried using Jerboa and got a “network error”.
Is something broken?
Thanks

Try to compress it. So far all that I compressed below 1MB went through, but I don’t know what the actual limit may be.
I was able to post an image by making it smaller, so yes, there appears to be some kind of limit.
That’s going to be a pain for users. Wouldn’t it be better to allow a larger upload and have the server scale it down?
At the very least, a proper error message, instead of a JSON parsing error!
I’d rather not see that done on server side.
Instead it could be already implemented in the website so that you only actually upload the processed image.
If it’s possible to resize an image on the client side, then whatever, but I can’t imagine getting “normals” on board with lemmy if we are giving them an obscure error message and (if they figure out what happened) then asking them to resize images manually.
