Cate Blanchett was last night photographed at the Los Angeles premiere of Borderlands in a halter-neck top [Ellen Hodakova] Larsson’s team had constructed from 102 spoons, each one sourced from in and around Stockholm.

The article doesn’t mention anything about the weight, so to satisfy my own curiosity I just got a rough measurement of the weight of a spoon head (I didn’t remove the handle from the spoons I measured, so instead I let the handle rest on the counter, off the scale). Based on what I could come up with, that many spoon heads would weigh between 1.5 and 2 kilograms. Which seems quite high, and many of the spoons on that outfit look quite a bit larger than the ones I measured (although they might be thinner or a lighter metal).

I wonder if the designer did anything to dampen the noise as well, because that many spoons rattling with every step seems like it would be quite loud.

It looks like the handles might just be bent around, and not cut off. So you might have been better off just measuring the whole spoon.

It’s just a blouse and not an entire dress. Looks kind of like chain mail. Kinda cool actually, though i wonder about comfort and how heavy it was.

Looking at the photo thumbnail, the photo is cut off at the waist. So, without opening the link, it might not be clear if it’s a dress. A dress might be super heavy made from spoons. Knowing it’s blouse length makes more sense. I shouldn’t be having to explain this, but here I am.

Shockingly enough, a bunch of strangers on the internet aren’t automatically going to understand your specific perspective until you explain it.

I imagine it would be awkward if you wore that to more than one event.

Easy way to go from ‘cutting edge’ to ‘Oh, that spoon lady.’

this makes me think of the weird socially awkward kid when I was in school. he’d wear weird shit or do stupid things to get a reaction.
