Hello everyone,

I’m currently in the process of joining my country’s (NATO) military as an Officer Cadet. My goal was to join the Naval Academy in the “Navy” degree, where I would study and work in fields such as Naval Warfare, Sailing and Navigation. As a backup I had the equivalent in the army. However, after my medical exams, it turns out I’m mildly colorblind and the only option I have available now is the Naval Academy in the “Naval Administration” degree, which is basically managing personnel, supplies and logistics from what I can tell. According to their website I’ll still be able to board ships, just not as often, and still be able to do international defense missions with allied countries.

What do you think? Should I join anyway or should I let go and try to find another career?

    It depends on what you want. Being an officer is taking care of people and making decisions whether at sea or in an office. If you still want to serve go for it, learn as much as you can and try to fix problems to make your people’s lives easier.

    But if not there are plenty of ways to serve your country without wearing a uniform.
