Here’s a story about the extreme hardship one woman went through to secure an out of state abortion in the US. Long flights, delays, and high cost, never mind the stigma and need to keep it quiet. And this woman was among the lucky who can afford the trip and procedure, and take the time from work.

It’s heartbreaking to read stories like these.

by actually going out and doing something to undo the damage, like voting against those who support these policies. making a bunch of people sad about the situation makes their story told but all it does is make sure that story will always be told. ‘raising awareness’ is useless if thats where you stop. everyone is aware of the abortion situation going on, it literally affects everyone who can reproduce. i definitely get where youre coming from but at some point the only people these stories are “helping” are the people at CNN collecting ad money from all the clicks. thoughts and prayers never actually helped anyone. plus the idea that CNN would want to help out in this situation is laughable, they thrive on conflict.

But news stories like this encourage people to take an active interest. I don’t think anyone is suggesting the media are highlighting this out of the goodness of their hearts but that’s the same for everything they publish.

I wish i could see it the same way as you, that it encourages people to take active interest. but to me it just seems like rage porn. either way atleast most reasonable people are on the same page with abortion, its only the religious extremists that see it differently.

But we don’t go out and vote every day. Most districts are 3-4 times a year. People don’t donate money every day or protest every day. This is a way to keep it in people’s minds for when those times do come up.
