The presidents of Brazil and Colombia discussed regional coordination to fight deforestation and protect the world's largest and most biodiverse rainforest at a meeting in Colombia's Amazonian city of Leticia on Saturday.

    The entire world should be assisting them and other hosts of rainforests into protecting these vital ecosystems. Attenborough is not exaggerating to call them the lungs of the planet

      This is about OTCA, which includes all countries with land in the Amazonian region. The organization is meant to coordinate response for regional development, conservation and so forth. This is something countries, which are not in the region just can not provide, well other then some money and some advise. Right now there is the Amazon Fund, which saw Norway and Germany donate money to Brazil to fund enviromental work. Also the EU is currently negotiating a massive trade deal with Mercosur, which includes Brazil and enviromental issues are a massive issue. Part of the reason is that EU farmers do not like to compete with Brazilian ones and do not want the deal, so they push the issue. Obviously the point is valid thou.
