Remember that feeling when, as a little kid, your parents said that you could eat all the candy you wanted, with no limits at all, and you were too fucking stupid to realize how bad that was for you? It’s like that.

Another big part is that he let’s you believe your failures aren’t your fault. Someone else sabotaged you, so you don’t have to commit the hard work of fixing yourself.

Where’s his appeal, and what’s it about? All I see are the Jack Smith related things when I look.

I think liking Trump must be like people who are into BDSM (I realize not everyone shares my opinion here), where it seems to be that you actually need therapy but instead decide to deliberately have someone hurt you all the time instead as a form of passive self injury.

I’m not so sure that they realise that he’s only in it for himself or that he made it so much worse not just for ordinary Americans, but specifically for people who supported him. I mean, I know he thinks they’re losers for getting caught on insurrection day but I don’t think they realise how much he looks down on them and how much deep contempt he has for them. The people who followed his advice about covid lost loved ones and gave their lives for what? Sticking it to the libs? But when he got covid, it was straight to the science and medicine and none of the horse dewormer crap that he was peddling to his supporters.

Okay, then what’s his appeal? Being a conman? A rapist, a fraud, a habitual liar, unbelievably vain, a pedophile, a barely literate narcissist?

Being a traitor, a useful idiot, a seditionist coup-plotter, an election stealer (failed)?

His appeal is the same as Bernie’s was. While most oligarchy controlled politicians refuse to recognize how shitty things are, Bernie and Trump got up and said what everyone who lives in the real world knows to be true: shit’s fucked up. The difference was that Bernie recognized it’s the oligarchy (including Trump, even though he’s kinda his own oligarchy) that’s fucking things up, while Trump just let the racists and misogynists and bigots choose whoever they wanted to blame and agreed with them. After all, he couldn’t point the finger at himself (probably literally, since he’s a narcissist his brain won’t let him).

Basically he recognizes that their lives are shit, and gives them license to openly blame whoever they want to blame. Thanks to decades of Republican bullshit, they tend to want to blame anyone who’s not a white Christian.

Do you guys not know what “appeal” means?? He is all of those things at his core, but do you think 50% of voters are like “I LOVE THAT HES RACIST!! I LOVE THAT HE LIES ALL THE TIME”. Your viewpoint is ignorant and dangerous.

Lol, then what are they saying?

We know they aren’t literally saying those words, but that’s because they do not think they are racist.

They think it’s okay to discriminate against someone because of their skin color or nationality. It’s their right.

They think it’s alright to impose their beliefs on others without middle ground. It’s my god’s word.

They think there’s nothing wrong with a little sexual abuse and misconduct. Happens all the time, get over it.

They think those things, and they are of course wrong. So while they don’t use the words you describe in your comment, in actuality, that is indeed what they are saying.

Even if everything you said is true - that’s still not his appeal to his base. Those are things that they are comfortable writing off due to his actual appeal. His actual appeal is something that you and most commenters on reddit would never verbalize because you’d rather stick to your simplistic worldview that every single trump voter is a racist, misogynist, etc.

Feel free to Google “what do people like about Donald Trump”. Nothing I say will change your mind about half the country being racist misogynists and nothing more. Just living villainous caricatures.

I’m not saying they don’t care about things. I’m saying they’re deliberately and in the face of plain, factual evidence, supporting a rapist who attempted a coup of the United States.

Does that make them racists and misogynists? I guess it depends if supporting racism and misogyny makes one those things.

But the racism and misogyny are anchors to what, for lack of a better expression, is trumps “appeal”. If they can’t see that, they’re either refusing to see it or are genuinely stupid, or are wildly misinformed.

Anything he does is that. Because that’s what he is. You cannot distance his nature from his actions. They are the same.

Unless you’re like, “well, Chris Brown beats women, but he’s a good singer, so I’ll continue to listen his words (which fund him).”

And to those people, I say “fuck you, too”.

          Oh, you actually see it.

There’s an energy niche. More than one, really.

It’s rather like a collective emotional complex. It’s like Christians and the devil. They’re not getting rid of that guy, he’s a natural consequence of the underlying concepts Christianity is based on. But ask a Christian, and they’ll tell you the devil is the bad guy, and they’ll have no part with him. Similarly, the left can’t even imagine that the right’s behavior is at all tied to them, while they feed it constantly.

One aspect of it is that if some people get lumped in with the devil, that becomes the concept they trust. If the left ignores and demonizes the right all the time, eventually they’ll go for the guy that’s effectively the bad guy, just because he gives some voice to their issues and occasionally punches the guy that’s been fucking with them.

But that’s just one aspect of his energy niche. Again, it’s a lot like an emotional complex - and until the underlying needs are resolved, Trumo and those like him will not be going away.
