The 16" Framework Laptop will include both Intel and AMD options, and will allow upgrading and replacing parts over time.
But it for me please
The last laptop you will ever buy is the one that kills you.

Framework makes use of swappable mainboards (heatsink and fan included)
Nice idea in theory, but if it’s a proprietary format/socket I’m wary of it becoming useless as soon as the company decides to stop supporting it, or goes out of business.
I do hope it finds success and I can join in on the fun in a few years, but I don’t have upwards of £900, as it’s likely to cost, free to bet on it now.
Hopefully other vendors use the same format and it becomes a standard.
System76 is going to start manufacturing their own laptops soon … ball is in their court for compatibility?
System76 hasn’t been manufacturing the laptops that it currently sells?
No, they are rebranded Clevo. Only the desktops are an in-house design.
There is an agreement, that system76 gets access to whatever they need to write their own Coreboot firmware that other Clevo rebrands do not have.
Moving towards their own in-house design and assembly in the US has been a goal for system76 for a long time and there should be an announcement later this year about the first such laptop.
Oh, interesting, I actually had a stellar experience with their desktop but an absolutely terrible subsequent experience with their laptop (which at least I was able to return with no problem) and I was wondering why there was such a disparity, and this may explain it.
I really hope the manufacturers get on board with this.
I absolutely love the idea- but previous reviews noted the battery life was notably lacking. Here’s hoping that’s fixed.
