One of my favorite Sanderson books period. In fact, while I don’t want to state it too definitively because recency bias is real, I think this may very well be his best individual book to date (it’s hard to fairly compare a series to a single novel though). Everything about it was so well-done, I wish I knew more about the behind-the-scenes of storytelling so I could compliment it properly.

This and The Emperor’s Soul are my two favorite works he’s done. I adore his character-focused works and hope that we get another odd project like the secret projects again in the future because I can’t get enough of these.

Definitely going down as one of the best, possibly the best so far for me. The character focus was amazing. Tress was incredible, sp3 blew way past it for me. I didn’t think there was much space for improvement, and wow did sp3 prove me wrong. Can’t wait for October!

One of my favorite cosmere books. Also, I would like to applaud Sanderson for not letting his inner Alcatraz put the epilogue in a sealed envelope at the back of the book.

Just finished the book, and honestly I’m kind of blown away. Definitely my favorite of any of the releases from the last several years, and I’m really glad that the physical books are going out on time, because I can’t wait to see how beautiful this book looks in print.

And for the lazy, at some point they’ll be on Sanderson’s website. Probably not TOO long after the digital sales are public next week.

I thought it was really neat how they included audio descriptions of each of the illustrations in the audiobook. It was nice to have that as a prompt so that I knew as I was listening when to look at each illustration, instead of having to look through them after I was done.

I noticed it had alt text in the epub. Including that in the audiobook is a cool accessibility feature.

This one is weird for me, I wasn’t drawn into this book as quick as Tress. The world wasn’t as interesting to me as some of his other works. It took me until chapter 28 to finally be invested in the characters (Early Yumi was a Karen imo, and I really don’t like her).

Early book I was only interested in Nikiro’s world the city in eternal darkowas really cool. It kind of puts a damper in my reading experience when 1/2 the pov’s take place in an uninteresting world (Yumi’s, for me was just meh).

I watched “Your Name” with my gf before I started Yumi and the whole time I was like this is a body swap like that. Pretty surprised about it being one of his inspirations I didn’t think Sando watched anime for some reason.

Overall, I give it a 2.5/5 it was okay worth a read for the Cosmere connections but I won’t reread it anytime soon if at all. Better than RoW and Lost Metal but weaker than Emperor’s Soul and Tress. Compared to the other secret projects it’s the middle book so far. Tress>Yumi>Wizard.

While reading it I kept thinking it reminded me of Your Name (the movie) and then I read the acknowledgements at the end where he mentions that Anime by name. Really enjoyed it, nice light hearted and fun read, just what I needed.

It was great. I really want to know how non Cosmere readers are going to handle the book, because there’s so much stuff that’s unexplained. Hoid’s explanations of what happened in the epilogue are going to be wicked hard to follow for those not well versed in the Cosmere.

Absolutely loved it. As I was reading I kept getting hints of FFX so it was gratifying to see it mentioned in the afterward.
