Will be interesting to see who they gave up since it’s a sign and trade.

    Edit:

    Seems it’s a 3-team deal

Josh Green is being traded to the Charlotte Hornets in the Klay deal.

Edit: Actually sounds like as it’s constructed them sending out Josh Green means they can just sign him outright so Warriors aren’t involved at the moment.

A strange twist to the emerging details about Klay Thompson’s intention to sign in Dallas: The Warriors haven’t agreed to any Klay Thompson sign-and-trade at this point, per team sources. It could still happen, but more negotiation and finalization would still be needed if the Warriors are to be part of it. - Anthony Slater

The Mavericks could sign him straight up without the Warriors help.

If Warriors don’t do it, they don’t get anything back. Since Warriors are already at the 2nd apron, they will do it.

Is that a good deal? Green definitely has been improving and has greatly increased his 3p% this past season. Sure Klay is still good (albeit streaky) on offense, but he’s cooked on defense. That won’t work well with Luka and Kyrie not being plus defenders. Green is a hustler and at least tries on both ends of the floor.

Will have to see if any other details come out since with just the little that’s out there it doesn’t seem like a clear improvement.

Klay is an ok defender, but you’re comparing him to his elite 2-way self from 2016-2018. Of course he doesn’t look as good, but he’s fine. Just older.

Defense is mainly effort anyway. Since the Mavericks will have a third shooter on offense, that will preserve their effort for defense.

Now teams will have trouble covering three good shooters. I’ve seen it on the Warriors and it’s tough to defend. It will make opponents work harder to defend them, leaving the other team with less energy for their offense.
