Hi, I was having some problems with my NAS.

Setup:

-Raspberry Pi 400 with Raspbian 64-bit installed on an SD card. -External 3.5" 8TB Seagate HDD connected via USB, encrypted with LUKS and formatted to ext4. (External Storage Drive One Touch HDD 8TB) -UPS to protect from electrical problems. (bought after first corruption) -Running SMB/SSH services.

All components have less than 1 year

My problem occurs every few weeks/days with the superblock on the HDD. It has a tendency to corrupt itself. I tried formatting it again, but it didn’t fix the problem. I scanned it for bad sectors and couldn’t find any. I also tried to access SMART, but for some reason, I can’t access it. I guess it’s a limitation of the external case.

Right now, I’m thinking of removing the encryption to reduce the possibilities of corruption.

Super basic, but check the quality of your power supplies, it’s not going to be a smoking gun, but a good quality, stable power supply is worth investing in

You’re on the right track regarding SMART, most USB-cases do not support it (I think they cannot even since it needs direct SATA connection?). You should definitely check these values though, so connecting it to some desktop machine through SATA and then checking the values would be my advice. No need for any file system access to do this, so no decryption necessary.
