I’m going to be a first time dad soon and want to meet others in a similar place in their life. Anyone else out here in the lemmiverse a new dad? Or anyone know of any dad groups around Eugene?

When I was a new dad, I ended up forming my own “Daddy needs a beer” group with some Facebook friends. Something like that might be the way to go.

Otherwise, posting here and probably on Reddit too - for now - is probably your best bet. Hope you get some bites.

Maeve is a chill local group of parents that formed out of the shitty way “Moms Club” handled the pandemic (also they excluded Dad’s and Maeve does not give a shot if you’re a mom or dad or whatever). Maeve has meetups and events every so often and I would recommend them as a parent networking thing.

My wife has a few friends that she met using peanut which is like tinder but for parents who are looking for friends. Yymv, but we are pretty tight still with a couple of them.

Yeah, it’s cool and remember that you have time to find other parents with kids around the same ages. They come out pretty damn boring and don’t actually want to do stuff for a good while. The “fourth trimester” is definitely a thing.

I’m a dad (youngest is 2yo) and recommend finding some people with kids they same age because different phases really have different schedules, needs, and play differently.

It isn’t the same as an IRL group, but there’s !dadsonly@lemmy.world.

Congratulations on dadhood, btw. It takes a while to get used to - so don’t worry if you don’t immediately feel the way you think you should. Or at least it took me a while to get into it.

Hey there, Eugene dad to an almost 3-year-old. I found that the Eugene men’s social group has a dad section in the discord and I post there a lot to talk with other dads. There’s also a meetup weekly at tugman Park in Eugene, there’s also a parent’s group out in Veneta. Don’t know where you’re located at, but there are some groups out here. A lot of them are billed as mommy groups or parent groups, but I’ve met a lot of really awesome dads at both of those.

Also, if you haven’t yet, I would check out parenting now’s parenting groups, my wife and I met so many families through there Who are kid still plays with today, and we became friends with the other families as well. It was an awesome resource for meeting other parents.
