“Amoral!” Opposition to genocide is “amoral” now! Fascinating.
It’s very funny that you talk about “preserving democracy” while simultaneously lecturing me about how that very “democracy” is conducting a genocide and giving people no option to oppose it. Doesn’t sound very much like a democracy to me.
You’re not actually doing anything, to stop that. You’re just sneering on the internet about how hard you’re gonna do nothing.
Voting to stop one problem is still important even if it doesn’t stop all problems. Or even another specific really horrible problem. But if you cannot stop that, maybe you should do something about the parts you can stop. Yeah? Otherwise you’re not taking a meaningful stance on any problem. You’re doing nothing. You are letting all of those problems happen.
Doing nothing is still better than doing a bad thing, such as supporting genocide.
I feel like you’re still not quite grasping that I simply do not believe in lesser-evilist ideology. Making appeals to me based on that framework is a waste of time.
I feel like you don’t know what criticism of your beliefs looks like. I know what you think - I am explaining why it’s dangerous nonsense.
Inaction doesn’t change what you’re complaining about. So voting for Biden is not making anything worse, on that front - the problem exists regardless. What it supports, what it changes, is the continued existence of American democracy.
Do you ever want to vote for anything else, ever again?
Do you ever want to vote for anything else, ever again?
Oh, not particularly. Not if my choices are as limited and meaningless as they have been my entire life. If I can’t vote against genocide, then being able to vote isn’t worth very much at all. It’s basically just getting to pick a face, if every serious decision is simply decided without voter input, then it seems like kind of a waste of time.
But really, this whole “end democracy” line is overblown regardless. He was already president once and didn’t end it then.
Violence against queer Americans is just “picking a face.”
That’s an interesting point because I have a question about that. In four years, suppose the Democrats nominated someone who wanted to ban trans medical care, and the Republicans nominated someone who wanted to do that and some other bad stuff. Would you sell out trans people the same way you’re willing to sell out Palestinians? Of course you would, that’s how lesser-evilism works.
As a matter of fact, I am queer, and I’m fully aware of the risks posed to me and my loved ones by a Trump presidency. But I also have this thing called solidarity, where I recognize that marginalized groups need to stick together to survive. Your ideology of lesser-evilism would allow us to be picked apart one-by-one, rather than drawing a red line and viewing an injury to one as an injury to all. I refuse to prioritize my own safety over the safety of another group, especially when that group is experiencing much worse conditions than I am.
Because if any serious decision is beyond your control, that means every serious decision is beyond your control
During the decades long imperialist invasion and looting of Afghanistan and Iraq which killed nearly a million people, not once were we given an option to elect an antiwar president. Not once. Don’t act like this is an isolated incident.
‘Sold out,’ ‘drawing a red line,’ blah blah blah. You are describing doing nothing.
You did nothing to stop W being in power when 9/11 happened, leading to two forever-wars. You did nothing to stop W being in power for an additional four years. You did nothing even when given the optimistic message of first-term Obama, and then you did nothing when the follow-up came down to Obama versus ‘let’s double Guantanamo’ Romney. You did nothing to stop The Idiot. You did nothing to stop The Idiot twice, even after four years of power-hungry narcissism and a god-damned plague. You eagerly brag about how you’ll do nothing, a-gain, even after he tried to ignore the election entirely, through extortion, corruption, and outright violence.
‘I won’t vote for them and then I’ll get exactly what I want!’ has never worked. As it turns out, putting people who want more of what you want in power, gets you more of what you want. Even if awful shit happens besides. Because politics are inherently kind of fucking awful, and you’re always going to be compromising on some damn thing. Sometimes - some big damn thing.
And I calling out how your self-congratulatory inaction is amoral apathy parading as moral superiority. Welcome to the conversation.
My ideology will not make a difference in what Israel is doing. Neither will yours.
Your ideology will not make a difference in whether America ever has another election. Mine will.

Cool cool cool, totally okay with fascism at home. Violence against queer Americans is just “picking a face.”
Because if any serious decision is beyond your control, that means every serious decision is beyond your control. No difference whatsoever. 1 = 0.
THERE WAS A FAILED COUP.
HE FUCKING TRIED.

My actions prevent worse evils.
Yours do not.
