Have you tried megalodon? Does more than the official app, but with a similar layout so the learning curve is a non issue.

Edit: It still stacks all comments like the official one. Maybe I’m too used to the Reddit/Lemmy comment nesting style. That’s the gold bar for me, but at least something like what Twitter has would be better.
Check Fedilab then, it has the comment nesting you mention. It even uses different colors to differentiate the nesting level.
