Tim Schafer, CEO of Double Fine Productions, confirms that the developer is not working on the third installment of Psychonauts, but on smaller games that will explore new styles.
I’m ok with this. Psychonauts is the kind of series that only works if it doesn’t become serialized. It’s just too unique and quirky.
I was honestly surprised they pulled off the sequel. It was way more endearing and fun than I expected. I genuinely did not expect it to live up to its predecessor, but it did somehow.
Actually kind of glad for this. While Psychonauts 2 was a very unexpected and personally enjoyed sequel, I feel like Double Fine has always done its best work when trying to do something original and different.
Yeah. I should play Stacking or Costume Quest (1 and 2) again…
It’s good for them to branch out. I found the studio to be hit and miss for my taste, but loved Psychonauts 2. Broken Age, in contrast, I found boring. I hope they lean into action on their new projects.
Honestly based off the documentary it looks like Psychonauts kinda broke the studio. Not surprised they’d try and focus on smaller games now to get away from the scope creep of bigger games.
