Im still frustrated at the lie and gaslighting that bathrooms were ever some strictly gendered space. Growing up, women going into the mens room happened a lot at sport events. Fathers would take their kids into the lady’s when the men’s didn’t have a changing table.

Most people want to do what they need to do an get out.

And if someone’s gonna assault you, the swing door with a stick figure with a dress aint gonna stop them.

We’re more likely to see more assaults with the bathroom ban in effect.

We’ll see it when trans folks are trying to follow the law, and then they will be screamed at for being “in the wrong bathroom” and then you’ll end up with people getting assaulted and/or demands to see their genitals. As the article astutely points out, you literally can’t win being trans in this scenario. All options result in people thinking you’re in the “wrong” bathroom. Doesn’t matter you followed the law, they’re going to hurt you anyway.

Not to mention, this will hurt cisgender people, too. Any cisgender people who don’t match western beauty standards will be under scrutiny. Straight ciswoman who happens to be pretty butch? She’s gonna get the shit kicked out of her for being in the “wrong” restroom. Then she’ll be falsely arrested until she can “prove” she’s a woman.

I can tell you, a man in a woman’s restroom checking everyone’s genitals to make sure the women are “safe” already screams that the restroom is unsafe because there is a man wanting to see every persons genitals in there for fucks sake.
