Welcome

Welcome to the race weekend! Please use this post to discuss all the sessions for this weekends Grand Prix.

I suspect that this post will be a little more hectic with all the action this weekend. We’ll look to change things up after this one if there is a demand for that.

Session times can be found here

Track limits is brutal, and I like it, but they need to be quicker.

I don’t. These track limits are too brutal. There has to be some margin for error

Exactly. You can’t keep pushing the boundaries. The white line is the edge of the track. My only issue was the length of time it took to invalidate laps.

Yeah, it is better than the guessing game of previous years. Track limits only at turn x, y and z.

    From the Dutch broadcast:

0.8 seconds between no.1 and no. 20 in Q1, last year De Vries would have been 10th.

FYI, posts/comments from lemmy.world users seem to be federating to lenmy.ml slowly/erratically. I’ve heard of this happening all over the lemmyverse, not just between those two servers, but a few regular posters are on lemmy.world and so some weekend news might arrive slowly from them due to federation lag.

Track limits having no margin for error is crazy. People say that the drivers are able to stay out of the wall in street tracks but walls are easy to see. Lines on the other hand are difficult to spot from the cockpit. Getting penalties for going mere millimetres over must be sucking the joy out of drivers

You have to set the limit somewhere. If you give 10cm of margin the drivers will just use them as well and its the same. The only thing they should do is automate the detection. 5 minutes for a decision is crazy.

If only there were some way to compensate them millions of dollars for their frustration.

All I want for Christmas is consistent and prompt stewarding. If they enforce track limits more or less every time, either before the lap is over or during the following lap, I’m happy for them to track it down to the millimeter.

Was Alonso lifting at the end? Looked like he kept getting better traction out and just not pushing it all the way to take the spot.

Yeah I definitely felt like he was holding back on the last lap. He wanted it but with the rain and being daddy’s team he thought better of it.
