So I bought myself a Victorinox Tinker Deluxe SAK, after my friend told me he’s been using his SAK for the last 15 years. I’m into small tinkering work, urban partisan activity and like to be prepared.
I’m not sure if it’s gonna be a life-long purchase, but from what I’ve seen, it’s quite durable. Will need maintenance and correct usage, though.
If it is only an occasional quick tool to do something they indeed basically last forever. I think I had mine for 25 years or so now. Mostly switched to a Leatherman though as the pliers in those are often very helpful.
I’ve been planning to get another leatherman once my funds recover from becoming a homeowner. We have one in our car emergency kit, but I think I’m finally adult enough to treat myself to either one of the s30v or 154cm bladed ones
Which Leatherman?
This is absolutely a decision based on aesthetics over functionality, but I just got myself a Signal. (Text references the bureau of sabotage from Frank Herbert’s ConSentiency novels)
I’d love a Signal, but it’s so god damn expensive where I live. It’s literally 1/2 of my monthly rent.
can you post that on https://sopuli.xyz/c/edc ? i don’t know how to link to another community on lemmy
op, @chaos_rat, can you too post that sak there?
Cross-posting is actually pretty easy on Lemmy! (Won’t work on specific comments, but it’s easy to cross-post the whole thread)
i use jerboa and thunder. i can’t see the cross-post option in either.
are you on a desk/lap-top+browser? Would be nice to learn how to cp
i tried “share post”. it seems to work 🤷
Hi there! Looks like you linked to a Lemmy community using a URL instead of its name, which doesn’t work well for people on different instances. Try fixing it like this: !edc@sopuli.xyz
I’ve carried a version of the Classic SD for over 30 years. It originally as a promotion from Marlboro cigarettes with a chain to connect it to your key ring. It gets lots of use.
When my son was young he got used to me always having it and would always ask to use it. Now he carries his own.
@chaos_rat, I’ve had and used the same one daily for ±30 yrs. I bought a leather belt holder with it, which included a small sharpening rod. The plastic shell is broken in a few spots from occasional drops over the years. Also a shot is worn in it’s shell from rubbing against the button fastener of the sheath for all those years. I lost the toothpick many years ago. I purchased a new one in 2020, but have yet to open it’s packaging. I just have too much history with the old one. It’s a good buy. You won’t regret it!
PSA: I’ve been IDCing these (i prefer supertinkerer or climber 92? mm models) my entire life and I have actually broke one! When you inevitably break the spring on the scissors (somehow I use them the most), don’t compensate with your thumb pressurering against the hinge. Have it replaced, many shops do it for free. Or in several years - you will break the scissors off just below the hinge. Didn’t know/expect that was possible. If something I am below average strength. Still the best knife I know, own 1/2 a dozen, even though I confess muscle memory probably plays a big role.
