    They are kids games. They’re tribal, and they’ve always been used for distracting the public into complacency as far back as the Roman republic at least – Bread and Circuses. Sports are the circuses.

    critical part of human culture for longer than the language you use to dump on them

    Critical for the ruling class to use so that they aren’t overthrown by the proles. Same as it ever was.

      Sports are much older than the concept of a “ruling class”.

      The argument that they are used as a distraction in capitalist societies does not detract from how central they are to the human condition. Hell, games aren’t even specific to humans

        ATHLETICS ARE OLDER THAN CLASSES.

        Sports are a relatively new dodge, roughly as old as monotheism. Don’t know the difference? Athletics is the act of physical contest and achievement, sports is expecting the populace to pay for your food and lodging so you can play games.

      yup. panem et circenses. these idiots think that since the grift goes back thousands of years it’s intrinsic to the human experience.

      it’s up there with religion in it’s ability to distort people who would otherwise be rational thinkers into idiocy.
