Hmm maybe if he hadn’t drank excessive amounts of alcohol he’d still be here. It’s embarrassing hearing about entitled British tourists making a fool of themselves overseas and expecting others to cater to their every need.

It is English exceptionalism born out of colonialism

I suppose that is the root cause. I’d like to think that those kind of behaviours will die with the older generations, but there you hear of groups of ‘lads’ causing havoc in places like Amsterdam on stag dos. I guess their lack of respect is something that’s been passed down from their parents and it becomes the norm for them? Thankfully it seems to be a small subset of people - most get on with their holidays without trouble.

I used to visit a friend in Latvia every summer and would be regaled with the latest stories of British guys going out there on stag dos, getting absolutely smashed, smashing places up and accosting local girls for sex. A few of them pissed on the freedom monument and that is not taken lightly.

Its definitely a British drinking culture thing but underlying it is exceptionalism that they’re just “Brits abroad having a laugh” so shouldn’t face consequences or at least not any serious ones.

That’s really a shame. There are tons of ways that you can have a good time abroad without being an idiot. Maybe like a driving license you should have your passport revoked if you cause trouble more than once. You’d have to pass a ‘being a decent human being’ aptitude test to get it back :P

I’m not comfortable with the state running a points system that if you fall below a certain level, you have your freedom of travel revoked but I’m all for the locals of places that unruly groups frequent taking matters into their own hands in dealing with them such as stripping them of all money and possessions then sticking them on the next flight home.

Considering all the other issues that happen with drunk people on flights, I think the sale and consumption of alcohol should be banned from airports

I was semi-joking with the points system (bit too close to social credits!) but I do think that local countries should consider harsher penalties like banning individuals from travelling there for some time if they’re a nuisance. Not sure about the vigilante justice though.

Removing alcohol from airports would be a good idea.
