I have a Fitbit, not a Pixel Watch, so maybe the experience is better with the Pixel. But ever since they rolled out Google Fit, it feels like the most bolted-on thing. You have to use the Fitbit app for a bunch of things, and then it’s supposed to transfer over to Google Fit with their sync API.

However, I’ve found that if I’m not actively opening Google Fit multiple times a day, it’s not automatically syncing. I have to open the app, and go into the log page, and only then will it finally give me heart points.

If I go a few days using only the Fitbit app and forget to open Google Fit, it doesn’t retroactively credit me for my workouts/steps/heart points.

I’m using an S23, and I don’t have Google Fit as an “optimized” app, so I know it’s not sleeping because of some setting I have.

I’m just baffled that we are this far out from the Google merger with Fitbit, and the experience is somehow worse than it was before.

I’ve had an iPhone before, and Apple Health has its own issues, but at least it works.
