    So it looks like the household carbon footprint drops again beyond the commuter belts around cities.

    So I’m hypothesising the high carbon footprint might be closely related to the combination of commuting in a car to work, suburbs with poor public transport and walkability, and lack of the localised self-sufficiency found in rural communities.

    There’s plenty of rural type work patterns interspersed in the commuter belts though, so I wonder if that would mask just how bad the footprints of commuter-households are?
