Glued to Glastonbury? Binged all episodes of Sharpe?
Let us know what you’ve been watching this week, and what we should get into.
I moaned a few weeks ago that I’d kicked off a trial for Paramount+ so that I could watch Star Trek Discovery during food and snack breaks while WFH, but bounced off it. In the end, I sort of got into it and now I’m about halfway through the final episode, which I’m saving for this mornings coffee break. Would I recommend it? Hmm… I mean probably not. Unless you’re a bit of a Star Trek nerd like me. Of course, I wasn’t able to binge it during the trial. That’s how they get you! Make mediocre shows that you can’t quite watch in a week.
Not a massive Trek fan but enjoyed Voyager. I really couldn’t get in to Discover. Season 1 was ok but it all felt a bit too cheesy or predictable.
Star Trek New World on the other hand has been great. I think that’s also on Paramount+
I hear that got a lot better after S1, but much like with Picard S1 was so completely terrible that I can’t quite face putting myself through any more of it.
Am I judging too harshly?
Finally finished Season Three of Agents of SHIELD, it was pretty good - even though there are so many episodes I don’t think there are too many non-events in it.
Also finished the second series of Oh Cook! on Prime. Everything James May does is brilliant.
We tried Puzzling on C5 with Lucy Worsley. It’s… not good. It feels like a Poundland Only Connect, with Lucy specifically trying to be VCM. It especially doesn’t work when in Only Connect VCM “knows” all the answers whereas LW has to “ask the computer”. It feels less natural.
God, by the time I got to the end of AofShield I was so done with it. they spun it around so many times with time loops, space battles, trying to work the fact that “the snap” happened into the universe. God there was so much to remember. Remember all the mutants? The Darkhold?
I was glad to be done with it, even if I can look back and say for the most part while I was watching it, I was having fun.
Puzzling was so bad. I couldn’t finish one episode and I love quiz shows like that. The flow was terrible. I think they must be cutting out a lot of thinking time, they’d just give you the question and immediately cut to the team answering it without giving you any time to think about it yourself.
Only Connect is good because they keep all that discussion and thinking time in and let you listen in. So maybe you don’t know that the random name was a cardinal, but you hear them mention it and you know the next guy is a giant and suddenly you’re shouting “American Football teams” at the TV.
Currently watching strange new worlds (star trek), lovered the first series and now second is out. first episode was but too “action hero” but second was ok, third ep this week is apparently time travel which can always be a bit hit and miss
Has anyone given Silo a look on AppleTV+? I’m a big fan of the books that it’s based on but I’ve heard very little in regards to the show. Opening episodes got decent reviews but I wouldn’t mind a normal person’s take.
Can’t help with a normal person’s take, but for me, it is one of the two shows that I want to watch as soon after an episode drops as possible at the moment (the other being SNW). The quality has kept up and there is plenty of good character development. Some people have said that it is a bit slow, but I don’t find that myself.
I’m really enjoying it, the set is really good and helps with the whole dystopian gloom, some of the acting is a bit iffy, but the storyline is good in a “makes you think” kinda way
What is the polite way to tell someone that the smell of a horse that died 2 weeks ago shouldn’t be coming out of your ass at 10AM?
Anyway, I’ve been watching Australian MasterChef. It’s a fun watch and is one of the few cooking shows where there is a mix of “I can cook better than most of these people” and “Oh that’s a good trick I’ll do that in the future”. It’s fun to watch with my wife and judge the contestants, make up our own dishes and rate theirs based on appearance and imagined flavour. 😂
Patiently waiting for the next episode of Silo while watching a couple of episodes of The Power when the sprog is in bed, while halfway through the 2nd season of La Brea (so bad it’s good) and the 3rd season of For All Mankind which started out really interesting but is starting to lose it’s shine.
Almost done with s02 of The Bear. Think I liked s01 a bit more, but it’s still a very good show.
We watched Karl meet some gorillas in another episode of An Idiot Abroad. Next up he’s visiting Route 66. During the day I’ve been a bit too glued to Wimbledon qualifying and various other tennis matches instead of being productive.
Watched Threads (1984) recently.
Still holds up, but unrelenting bleakness!Oh yeah that’s hard to watch. The bleakest ending to anything I’ve ever seen. I don’t think it’s something I ever need to watch again, but it’s worth seeing once.
