I’d like to change the default sort, so its not active since “active” usually shows posts from about a week ago

You can, in the side bar, click on the 3 dots, next to your preferred view & set default…👍🏼

Open the menu, to the right of where it says FrontPage click on the 3 dots and select Set Default.
