Gimp and latex. Risky Google searches
I’ve read that GIMP developers refuse to change the name despite complaints since a long time. A fork of GIMP (Glimpse) is discontinued. Luckily there’s other names in that area :
Are the developers non-native speakers of English?
I was introduced to GIMP in edubuntu before I knew what the word was, so GIMP was GNU Image Manipulation Programme for me and I did not about the issue until I saw it mentioned in some linux communities.
He’s out of line, but he’s right.
Non native english speaker here always liked the sound of gimp in my language, it’s a nice name for me… Probably because I can’t find how to translate it … It gives me something equivalent to small rope ? Btw if someone has a suggested Foss offline android translator would be greatly appreciated 👍🏻 tired of using Google branded one …
uh, i think that says more about OPs dad pick those names out of millions of other important utils names with random letters.
As someone who watched Pulp Fiction years before GIMP was created, I am really uncomfortable mentioning GIMP the software in conversation, or suggesting to someone who isn’t familiar with the software to go search for GIMP online.
