Somebody mentioned de-lidding the CPU. I am hoping to get away with not doing that, but we’ll see how it runs.

I got it for $40, so I can’t complain. The disc drive works fine, it outputs 1080p, the controller input works fine. It just needs to be cleaned like all hell.

Thank you! I hadn’t thought about the pads; I’ll be sure to do those too.

Wow! I mean, if it works okay and you’re happy to clean it then $40 is good.

I remember the inside of my PS4 being a bit of dust trap. The fan was much quieter after I gave it a good clean - but it was never as bad as your photo :o

Not sure why you would delid the CPU. Replace the thermal paste sure but delidding will likely kill it. In other news, dust that green is usually from smokers, where a mask!

Like, regular tobacco smoke does that, or weed?

It’s weird because I don’t smell either tobacco or weed, and I feel like it would reek if that were the case.

I’m not going to delid it because I’ve never done that before and am not going to try for the first time on a valuable (to me) old console. But apparently it’s pretty popular to do it to PS3’s.
