People are saying that the judge is attempting to limit his ability to cry fowl, mistrial, grounds for appeal. In that light, I can understand the huge sway granted. It still pisses me off.

I know I can be in open contempt of court at least three or four times without making a judge so mad they lock me up, but maybe I’m just talented. /s

It doesn’t matter how this trial turns out… he’ll appeal the fuck out of it until January then make up some bullshit about being able to parson himself from state crimes…

I remember reading many, many years ago (Long before Trump was a thing, and I acknowledge I could be totally wrong here), but I remember reading an article that discussed this possibility (A president being incarcerated for state crimes), and the general belief at the time was that state incarcerations would be trumped (no pun intended) by the needs of the President to execute his duties unencumbered, and courts would likely rule that incarceration would be put on hold until after the President’s term is over.

Again, I don’t know if that’s true or not. I could be talking out of my ass. But I could easily see that being a thing in this case – even if Trump were convicted of state crimes, he’d be able to avoid punishment for 4 years if he’s re-elected, which gives him plenty of time to somehow make the whole thing go away entirely.

That’s the game…it doesn’t matter if it’s true or not. He’ll claim it is, and by the time (or if even) the courts figure it out, the media will have forgot all about it and he’ll get away with it. It’s been a systemic dismantling of democracy that Biden didn’t do anything to fix. We’re fucked…royally fucked.

      No to all of this.

No matter what happens, he’s going to cry foul. He’s going to appeal literally every aspect of this right up to the Supreme Court. He’s going to demand mistrials, re-trials, and dismissals at every level. Unless he’s found not guilty on all 34 counts, this is going to happen no matter what. Jack Smith is going to be accused of being in cahoots with Genghis Kahn and only prosecuting Trump for the glory of China. Every member of the jury are going to have Trump Derangement Syndrome and are going to be painted as extremists who have been out to get Trump from birth. Every single ruling against every single piece of evidence is going to be appealed. This is Trump. This is what he does.

Giving him huge sway out of fear that he’s going to do what he’s going to do anyway just plays right into Trump’s hands and only becomes more evidence that there are two tiers of justice in this country, and those at the top get more leeway because either they’re afraid of some form of retribution or because they just don’t want to bother dealing with it.

The man is threatening literally every person involved in this case on a daily basis, and has already caused at least one person to exit the case out of fear and credible threats. He should have been thrown in jail the minute that juror was excused.
