It’s a slightly click-baity title, but as we’re still generating more content for our magazines, this one included, why not?

Unpopular opinions from last time include:

  • My Sci-fi unpopular opinion is that 2001: A Space Odyssey is nothing but pretentious, LSD fueled nonsense.

  • I could not get into the expanse at all.

  • My unpopular opinion is that I don’t like space operas.

Not unpopular as in disagreed with, but simply not a common opinion I’ve seen stated anywhere:

More movies/shows should expand other parts of their worlds without necessarily involving the main themes or characters of the original media.

For instance, I want to see attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion or c-beams glittering in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. Explore the off-world colonies. It doesn’t necessarily need to involve androids or the question of what it means to be human.

The series wasn’t great, but the idea of merging Blade Runner and Total Recall in Total Recall 2070 was interesting.

The Mandalorian’s earliest episodes until the Season 1 finale are a great example of this concept.
