Hi! I’m looking for scifi stories that feature a sentient world or landscape. The worlds don’t necessarily need to be alive, but at least have an agency or act as protagonists of sorts in the action.
A classical example is Stanislaw Lem’s Solaris, of course, but the way the Earth play a role in the plot of NK Jemisin’s Broken Earth Trilogy is equally intriguing to me. Some VanderMeer novels also come to mind!

My first jump was more abstract: what is fate if not the universe making decisions. But that’s not what I think you’re looking for. A more concrete example, and I still don’t think it fits: Deathworld.
I don’t think it’s played that way in the beginning, I think the characters, and as such we, just think the world is hostile to all life l. But no, it is hostile to human life in particular, the world wants us gone and it’s trying to achieve those aims. Been a long while since I read it though, so I might be fuzzy .
