Curious about the job market - is it still the buyer’s market for you, or has the recession subsided?

I graduated about ten years ago but I’m unemployed and my entire network is also unemployed except for one guy who still has a job at Apple. But they don’t want to interview me for anything even though I have a referral

Sorry if this is a weird question, but were you unemployed since the last ten years? Or were you fired recently?

I was laid off because the company I was working for ran out of investment money. Almost everyone else at the company was also laid off.

It was never the “buyer’s market” if you have to sit through a 6 hour grueling complex onsite to have the chance to make your company literally millions of dollars a year

but it’s pretty shit, from talking with friends in Canada and USA

everybody I know who got laid off with <=2 YOE either: hasn’t found a new job in almost a year or took a literal 50-70% paycut after searching for 6+ months

South Africa - The job market in IT/software development/programming is shit and only going to get worse. But that’s just South Africa in general, unemployment is over 30%, and youth unemployment over 50%. IT/software development used to be a safe haven from this, but not anymore.

Not a CS graduate, but this is what I’ve heard from friends in the industry.
