I’m new to using Matrix and currently use Element on iOS as a client. The Matrix specs page notes that there is “optional” end-to-end encryption, but I don’t see an option for that. I’m just wondering if it’s a client limitation for the moment or if it’s enabled by default, and how secure the messaging is.

I would love to learn how it works so I can possibly replace some other group chat apps with friends and family.

Session and family and friends don’t go together. Session IDs are not user friendly and having to buy ONS is just asking to annoy people.

What’s hard with scanning QR code or copying and pasting the ID? When you add contact, you see name they set when creating ID.

It’s not the norm and moving non tech people to something that’s not the nerm is an enourmous task. Hell moving non tech people to anything new is close to impossible. Add onion layers to Session, crypto coin and they will be back to their regular SMS app or Facebook messenger in 30 seconds.
