i remember joining the fediverse all the way back in 2020, and i remember being obsessed with linux stuff like all the time. I think I was around 15 when I made this smol group (its not smol anymore lmao) after i made this i didn’t use lemmy for like 2 years and now i come back to it and now over 1,000 people have joined. That’s fucking insane. Now every other fediverse platform is growing well too. crazy

With Web 2.0 circling the drain specifically because of the financialisation of everything, crypto demons co-opting the term Web 3.0 to describe the intensification of that financialisation has been profane. Just pure Mammon shit. I like that Lemmy is a genuine alternative path for social media. It’s rediscovering all the good things about Web 1.0 and combining it with the networking of Web 2.0, minus any of the latter’s gamification or enshittification. The dream of the 1990s internet and fighting the enclosure of the digital commons are both achievable with projects like this.

The only issue with Lemmy is the cost to run it.

I love not seeing adds everywhere for everything but it needs some form of monetisation

I’m looking forward to the day people will understand we can completely ditch the GAFAM. The new web is here, fully functional, just waiting for more people to get involve. (RATM in background), We gotta take the power back!
