Wow, that is really impressive. It would be really nice to use for two way radio if it could be run in real time on a microcontroller or FPGA. AMBE and Codec2 sound very robotic at 2kbps.

Most digital voice modes fit in a 12.5kHz channel. LoRa would need 10 times that for the same bitrate. It certainly wouldn’t be practical on the 70cm band, but it could be doable on 33cm if you are somewhere where there isn’t a bunch of unlicensed users cluttering up the band.
The man is a legend although I guess he has done prior experience with codecs through ffmpeg.
