For the Grizzlies, who are going to be without Ja for 1/4th of the season and lost their 2nd best defender (Brooks), its probably a move of desperation
Grizz are deep, should be able to handle those 25 games at least around .500, I really don’t think it’s desperation. It just kills multiple birds with one stone:
Fill backup guard/playmaker in lieu of Tyus who can also start during Ja’s suspension
Add a defensive minded guard who can play alongside Ja better than Tyus did (not enough size/defense)
Fill Dillon’s perimeter defender role
Add a veteran with playoff experience who can be a leader and culture guy
It makes sense on a lot of levels, and the more I think about it the more I like it.
