EU needs to add repairability and recycling to the list of requirements for imported EVs if it hasn’t already. 15-20 years for critical parts at least. China isn’t going to care about all the junk that’s going to pile up if they aren’t built with repairability in mind.
Fully agree. Repairabiliy should be a prereqisite for all car manufacturers to sell new cars. No matter the country of the manufacturer and no matter if EV or not. I’d appreciate something like all spare parts must be available for at least 15 years, within 3 weeks on demand and for a price no more than 300% of the proportional value in the original car. In case they run out of spare parts, they should be responsible to produce an adequate solution (3D printing, retrofit of a newer part or in worst case replacement of the whole car) for said price.
That would be ironic considering European car brands are built with planned obsolescence in mind. Also I dunno why is it China’s duty to deal with waste from a foreign country. With that logic, all scrapped VW, BMW and Mercedes around the world are to be the responsibility of Germany? You need to check your privilege.
