Solo Traveller Resources and Freebies

Stolen from r/Solo_Roleplaying - this is a thread I want to make sure hangs around the Internets and I think it’s a good one to share here. Here’s the original link: https://www.reddit.com/r/Solo_Roleplaying/comments/qvws3i/traveller_resources_and_freebies

11/18 EDIT: Some other resources added

Over the last weeks I saw many threads about (or recommending) Traveller. Since it is my favorite RPG I write down here a curated list for beginners and the curious.

First of all, I strongly and heartly recommend the Traveller Out Of The Box blog post series by Chris Kubasik. It’s about Classic Traveller, the original 1977 edition. CT is the most hackable and toolkit oriented edition by far, excellent if you want to make your own universe. Kubasik wrote a insightful analysis on why CT is so good to do this.

The 10 Minute Traveller video series on YouTube by Tim Evans. If you want quick start CT, this videos are top notch, nothing less to say!

Paul Elliott made a number of free supplements for CT, including an amazing solo ruleset. As everything Elliot writes, it’s all very high quality.

Freelance Traveller is the venerable web zine since 1998. I recommend all the issues, but if you don’t want to download the whole thing, take a look at least to the Doing It My Way section of the website. There is a thoughtful solo procedure by Dave Cooper there.

The Zhodani Base is also a very helpful resource, including some excellent generators.

If you want to play in the Official Traveller Universe (OTU) Traveller Map is mandatory, since it maps all the Known Space. But you can also use its custom data tools to make your own posters and booklets.

donjon.bin.sh has a Traveller System Generator other than plenty of other tools like Sci-Fi Random Name Generator, Space Jobs (aka missions), Encounters and so on.

If you prefer pen and paper these Geomorphs could be useful. Also available in PNG for VVTs.

A CT Character Generator, complete with all the careers from S04 Citizen of the Imperium.

Traveller Worlds uses the T5 tables and algorithms to generate whole star systems, including all the planets and moons! You can totally insert your own custom universe UWP to render the system. Complete with hex planetary maps and system diagram!

Some CT resources, including all the major TAS forms (aka game sheets).

/u/xBobble in comments reported this amazing tool by the venerable Robert Pearce: the Traveller Referee Emulator

Classic Traveller is available on DriveThru but the best value is to buy the CD-roms (flash drives on request) from Far Future Enterprises. For 35$ you could have all the books and supplements.

A totally free alternative is the Cepheus Engine, which is based on Mongoose Traveller 1st edition, but is has strong Classic vibes

    Citizens of the Imperium forum

    • the Citizens of the Imperium forum software was upgraded with a new system last year and discussions and such ported over from the old one. I like it very much. There’s a small but growing number of players on the forum that Solo. A dton of people to discuss with and even some Play-by-posts you can watch or even participate in. Plus a Player Locator to find other Travellers near you.

    Spinward Scout’s Way Station

    • I have a bunch of extra rules posted here. And a lot of Traveller links. Use what you want. Not all of it matches everyone’s idea of Traveller.

Oh wow, I didn’t know Zozer made CT-specific solo rules. Thanks for sharing!

I’ll recommend the weapon cards from Tales to Astound, the same guy that does the Traveller: Out of the Box series. He made cards for both the 1977 version and the 1981 version of CT. I’ve used these at conventions and for my own solo games, and they can speed things along.

Thanks a bunch. I found some too that are cool. I’ll put together my list. The Out of the Box series is amazing.

I’m a big fan of the massive Excel masterpiece called the Traveller Referee Emulator that Robert Pearce put together. It’s a huge collection of generators and Traveller tools that could keep you going for a long, long time.

Thank you for this! I have been looking into Traveller and this saves me a lot of time. Do you think it could be hacked together with Ironsworn Starforged?
