I just pressed some key combination, maybe Win+C, which opened some Cortana app which wouldn’t close till I killed the task. This got me thinking that I need to get rid of the bloaty shit in this Windows install.

Anyone recommend some good ways to do so?

I’ve always been a fan of ShutUp10++. It gives a crap load of options to disable (including completely disabling Cortana) and even gives you recommendations about whether you should (and why/not). Works on Windows 11 as well, which is great.

So, as far as I know, the best solution right now is this tool. Created by Chris Titus with help from some smart people from his community.

You just use one command in the PowerShell, it temporarily downloads the newest version, runs it, you do your thing and then it wipes itself.

If you want to know more about it, go to projects GitHub page.

Chris has a great YouTube channel too — he actually covers all operating systems and has a lot of technical knowledge.
